An amaaaaazing group of campers!

This week we've got an amazing group of campers here with us through the American Diabetes Association who are enjoying even more beautiful weather at Camp K!  In these pictures, you'll see a camper checking out the "meal chart" before dinner, which helps them to learn about counting carbs, and figuring out how much insulin they need to take before each meal.  Also, a sunny picture showing our new health center, flag pole, and girls cabin, as well as campers at last night's Opening Campfire!

Tonight's gathering

Oz tells the story of the Tiger, the Brahman, and the Jackal at tonight's gathering.  Each night campers gather together for a story before bedtime.  Last night, Jay shared the story of the Warm Fuzzies.

Explorers and Trailblazers enjoying the day at Camp K!

The day couldn't be more beautiful at Camp K where the Explorers have been busy boating, playing games, singing, doing archery, painting, and more!  This morning we enjoyed pancakes, and we've just finished sandwiches for lunch.  Teen Trek Trailblazers are also here, and they've spent the morning blazing a new trail at camp.  They'll be heading out for their 4-day hike tomorrow.

The Teen Trek Experience! Watch it here.

Only a couple weeks ago, we had one of our most amazing camps to date- our Voyagers Teen Trek.  With their base at camp, these teens planned their trip, practiced water survival skills, and then headed out for a four day trip on Kenai Lake.  They paddled, hiked, camped, skipped rocks, and had an amazing time!  You can take a peek at their adventure at:  Teen Trek Voyagers- Video Link

Our second Teen Trek of the summer (Trailblazers) will be heading out on the trails July 21st-27th.  Youth ages 14-17 interested in attending this "backpacking extravaganza"  should visit the campfireak.org website to register.

Bring on the sun!

This week, camp is inhabited by Pathfinders 2 and Peninsula Puffins, and we are enjoying the sunshine! Sunday night we gathered for a campfire, songs, and skits, and this morning we've been boating, doing archery, painting, and games.  Our tummies are full with pancakes (breakfast), and salad with chicken (for lunch)!  The boys will be camping out tonight, while the girls enjoy an evening of activities.

Challengers learn rescue skills!

Don't be alarmed! These pictures are from today's waterfront safety drill.  Today, when our lifeguards were practicing their rescue skills, we had two campers eager to not only act as "victims", but who also wanted to learn how to rescue their lifeguards.  Other "choice activities" today included Ultimate Frisbee, Kuub (Viking Chess), making survival bracelets, and building a new ga-ga pit!

Another beautiful day for our Explorers and Teen Trek Voyagers

Here's what's been happening at Camp K... last night we enjoyed a meal of baked ziti with garlic bread, green beans, and brownies, and then gathered together for our opening camp fire.  There we sang songs, played games, and watched some great skits!  This morning, some of us woke early for "Book Worms" where Statler read us two great books.. "Goldilocks and the 3 Dinosaurs", and "Gertrude McFuzz", as we enjoyed some hot chocolate.  Then, we had a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and fruit... yummy!  Now, we are playing games to get to know our group better, and then will be boating, doing target sports, making a craft, and learning about nature.  Teen Trek Voyagers are already busy in the water doing canoe tips and survival swimming in preparation for their canoe trip.  Whew!  It will be a busy day, and our campers can't wait to tell you all about their adventures at Camp K!
