Saturday with Challengers

It's a not so lazy Saturday at camp, where we started with a late wake-up and brunch.  Then groups geared up to head out for the day.. two groups heading for an overnight camp out, three for an afternoon of canoeing and kayaking Kenai Lake, and another three making an attempt to summit Slaughter Gulch.  Here's Wolf and Mowgli's group departing for their overnight!

Challengers learn rescue skills!

Don't be alarmed! These pictures are from today's waterfront safety drill.  Today, when our lifeguards were practicing their rescue skills, we had two campers eager to not only act as "victims", but who also wanted to learn how to rescue their lifeguards.  Other "choice activities" today included Ultimate Frisbee, Kuub (Viking Chess), making survival bracelets, and building a new ga-ga pit!

Day one of Challengers

What's been happening at Challengers camp?  Just on day one groups have been doing archery, atl-atls, line dancing, painting, canoeing, transplanting trees, playing ga-ga, hiking the Power Line trail (blindfolded!) visiting the K'Beq heritage site, and rafting.  Tonight, we'll be playing field games all together. Whew!  Tomorrow, we're looking forward to a morning of "choice" activities, and our first camp out heads out on the trail.  (Below- campers from Mowgli's group on their raft trip!)

Floating on the Kenai.. coming and going

Tuesday morning at camp started bright and early with a Polar Bear Plunge, breakfast sandwiches, and a day's full of activities including drama, showers, swimming and hiking.  Pictured are some of our youngest campers trying their hand at canoeing with M&M, and our oldest campers, Teen Trek Voyagers, on their way to a 3-night canoe trip to Porcupine Island.  Tonight, the girls played Rainbow Tag, while the boys made s'mores on the beach.  Wednesday morning Explorers will be packing, and heading back home after lunch time to tell you all of their stories!

Voyagers will be returning to camp on Friday, and heading home on Saturday!

Another beautiful day for our Explorers and Teen Trek Voyagers

Here's what's been happening at Camp K... last night we enjoyed a meal of baked ziti with garlic bread, green beans, and brownies, and then gathered together for our opening camp fire.  There we sang songs, played games, and watched some great skits!  This morning, some of us woke early for "Book Worms" where Statler read us two great books.. "Goldilocks and the 3 Dinosaurs", and "Gertrude McFuzz", as we enjoyed some hot chocolate.  Then, we had a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and fruit... yummy!  Now, we are playing games to get to know our group better, and then will be boating, doing target sports, making a craft, and learning about nature.  Teen Trek Voyagers are already busy in the water doing canoe tips and survival swimming in preparation for their canoe trip.  Whew!  It will be a busy day, and our campers can't wait to tell you all about their adventures at Camp K!
Saying "hello" from our Sunday night camp fire!
